Highlighting the Mexican folk holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a traditional altar is on display in the Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Atrium in the Marvin Library Learning Commons through Friday, Nov. 4.

The exhibit is presented by Associate Professor Malu Benton and Library Director Brenda Hazard. The altar features traditional elements including esqueletos (skeletons), calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls), and flowers. A display of related library materials is available for browsing and loan.

Learn more about Dia de los Muertos by attending a presentation by Professor Benton on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Marvin Library Learning Commons (MRV235) . Chocolate calaveras treats will be available to attendees through the generous support from the Department of English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language.

Watch these two-minute clips from the Instructional Media Center’s Films on Demand collection  featuring perspectives on the history of Dia de los Muertos from a Mexican American describing family traditions and a travelogue describing the holiday through a colonial lens.
