Earlier this year, the Modern Language Association (MLA) published the eighth edition of its handbook. The purpose of the handbook is to help students avoid plagiarism by properly documenting the sources they use in their research projects. While the recent changes in MLA style do not constitute a major overhaul, they do simplify and clarify the documentation process.
As a result, all Hudson Valley Community College faculty members and students who use MLA style should know that everyone who works in The Writing and Research Center will be instructing students according to the new eighth edition (2016) guidelines. This will include the faculty librarians and all the writing specialists: the full-time faculty, the professional tutors, and the peer tutors.
For more information about the new MLA guidelines, please contact Jim LaBate at j.labate@hvcc.edu or visit The Writing and Research Center on the second floor of the Marvin Library Learning Commons.
