New training sessions: LGBT Cultural Competency and Anti-Racism & Homophobia

 

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has partnered with In Our Own Voices​, Inc. (IOOV) to offer training sessions in LGBT Cultural Competency, and Anti-Racism and Homophobia for Hudson Valley Community College faculty and staff.

In Our Own Voices’s mission is “To work for and ensure the physical, mental, spiritual, political, cultural and economic growth of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People of Color Community.”

These trainings will take place via Zoom. Participants are encouraged to attend both if possible.

Thursday, Feb. 24 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Program Description
These interactive trainings are intended to enhance interpersonal relationships between participants and those with whom they interact and engage by providing participants with opportunities, as well as tools and resources to:

  • unpack and examine concepts related to sexual orientation, gender identity, race, etc.
  • explore how historical events and implicit bias shape interpersonal relationships and perceptions of race, gender, and sexual orientation.
  • enhance their ability to identify, interrupt and/or address personal and interpersonal bias.

The facilitators from In Our Own Voices will engage with participants to develop community-based solutions that foster safer and more inclusive environments for marginalized groups.
