Jean Winifred Robinson Meehan died October 29, 2014. Born on July 14, 1934 and raised in South Troy, Jean was the daughter of Arnold and Winifred Robinson. She met and fell in love with James F. Meehan, Jr. of Troy and they were married on May Day 1954. They started their life together in Jacksonville, FL where Jimmy was stationed in the US Navy, then returned to Troy and finally settled in Poestenkill, where they raised their three daughters.
In addition to being a homemaker and loving mom, Jean also worked as an office clerk at Denby’s and as a senior account clerk in the Accounts Payable department at Hudson Valley Community College for 19 years, retiring in December 1996. Jean enjoyed family gatherings, all kinds of music and theatre, crossword puzzles, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She showed generosity to everyone she met and we all will miss her quiet kindness and sense of humor.
Jean is predeceased by her husband, Jim, and by her daughter, Tracy Anne Redmond. She is survived by her daughters Rev. Nancy Meehan Yao (Jim), Hector, NY, Mary Beth Mullen (Tim), Troy and her grandchildren John and James Yao, T.J. and Sean Mullen, and Erin and Bryan Redmond. She also is survived by her sister Carol Clement (Alec), brother David Robinson (Bonnie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean lived with her final illness with quiet courage and strength, and the love of her family. We would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at Hawthorne Ridge in East Greenbush, the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes and Community Hospice, whose kindness made momʼs final months as comfortable as possible.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Connolly’s Funeral Home, Wynantskill, NY on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 4 – 7 p.m. Burial will be private. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill, where Jean was a member and Sunday School teacher for many years. Those wishing to remember Jean in a special way may send a contribution to the Eddy Alzheimer’s Center at Hawthorne Ridge, 32 Community Way, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
