“Old South” film screenings Thursday, Feb. 25

In celebration of Black History Month, “Old South,” an award-winning film by Danielle Beverly, will be shown in the BTC Auditorium at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25. All showings are open free to all; the film runs 54 minutes.

“Old South” tells a quiet, unfolding story that provides a window into the underlying dynamics of race relations in so many American communities. An Athens, Georgia college fraternity that traditionally flies the Confederate flag, moves to a historically black neighborhood and establishes a presence by staging an antebellum-style parade. What starts as a neighborhood struggle over southern cultural legacies, becomes a physical and emotional space for healing, possibilities, hope and grounds for understanding.

The film is presented by the Cultural Affairs Program.
