Booster Shots Approved; Rensselaer County to Provide Boosters at Health Clinics This Week

Eligibility for booster shots to fight COVID-19 have been approved on the federal and state level, meaning more residents will be able to receive boosters and choose between all three vaccines, the Rensselaer County Health Department announced.

Rensselaer County will be providing booster shots to the expanded group starting this week. The county has been providing booster shots for the past three weeks for one vaccine, while approval was pending.

The county will be providing booster shots on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the county Health Department, located on the second floor of the Rensselaer County Office Building, 1600 Seventh Ave. in Troy, and Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bulmer Telecommunications Center on the Hudson Valley Community College campus. Appointments are not required.

All three vaccine doses, including Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, will be available based on the following criteria:

Eligibility for Pfizer and Moderna, at six months or more after the initial vaccine series:
—  65 years and older
— Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
— Age 18+ with underlying medical conditions (attestation is needed)
— Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk setting (attestation is needed)

Eligibility for Johnson & Johnson:
— Age 18+ and were vaccinated two or more months ago.

It is expected that booster shots will also be available at pharmacies and physician offices.
