Welcome to the Online Writing and Research Center

No classes currently are being held on campus and the Marvin Library is temporarily closed, but students can still obtain writing assistance through the Online Writing and Research Center. That assistance can be obtained in three ways.
● First, you can send an email to writinglearningcenter@hvcc.edu, and one of the writing specialists will respond.
● Second, you can find a wealth of writing resources in Blackboard in a Community called “The Learning Centers – Writing.”
To enroll, follow the 14 steps below.
1. Go to the HVCC web page at www.hvcc.edu
2. On the far right, click on the drop-down menu for “I am a . . . Student”
3. In the center of your screen, click on “MyHudsonValley Portal / Blackboard”
4. Log in with your HVCC “Username” and “Password”
5. On the far right, click on the word “Community”
6. Under “Instructional Support.” click on the word “Writing”
7. On the left, click on the words “Click here to enroll”
8. On the left again, click on the word “Enroll” to confirm
9. On the far right, click on “Submit”
10. On the bottom right, Click on “OK” to continue to the course
11. On the left, click on the tabs for various information about writing
12. To receive feedback on a piece of writing, click on the tab “Submit a Paper for Review”
13. At the top of the page, follow the directions for “How to Submit a Paper for Review”
14. Near the bottom of the page, follow the directions “To Retrieve Comments”
● After you enroll in “The Learning Centers – Writing,” you may take advantage of the third option: you may have a video conversation with a Writing Specialist by clicking on the tab that says “Click here to speak with a Writing Specialist via Zoom.” Next, you should see a list of Meeting Rooms, and you can click on “Join” to enter a Zoom Meeting with a Writing Specialist.
