The Hudson Valley Community College Theatre Club and  Theatre Arts Program present “Passion Play” by Sarah Ruhl on at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 19, 20, and 21 in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre.

Admission is free for all Hudson Valley students, $5 for all other students and $10 for the general public.

Sarah Ruhl’s “Passion Play” has been hailed as extraordinary, bold, and inventive. It’s a humorous, serious, and unsettling exploration of devotion and human nature. Ruhl’s intimate epic dramatizes a community of players rehearsing their annual staging of the Passion of Christ in three different eras: 1575 northern England, just as Queen Elizabeth outlaws the ritual; 1934 Oberammergau, Bavaria, as Hitler is rising to power; and 1969-1984 South Dakota, during the Vietnam war through to Reagan’s presidency. In each period, the players grapple in different ways with the transformative nature of art as the intersection of politics and faith impact personal choices.
