As we start a new semester, I wanted to remind you that Hudson Valley Community College now has a convenient way for you to reset your password if you forget it using a “forgot password?” link. Once you go through the quick initial setup, you can immediately reset your own password 24/7 without anyone’s assistance!
What does this mean for me?
Once you set it up, you can quickly regain access to Hudson Valley systems if you forget your password. You will no longer need to come to campus and show an ID or wait for a new password to be mailed to you. This utility allows you to reset your password quickly and easily using security questions and an alternate email, similar to other colleges, banking institutions, and other online entities.
What do I need to do to set this up?
This feature has been turned on for all users, but before you can take advantage, you need to provide the college with an alternate email address and choose three security questions/responses within WIReD. Once complete, this enables the password reset ability on your account. For more information on how to complete this simple process, visit the ITS resources page located at: https://www.hvcc.edu/its/resources/student-account-help.html
How will I reset my password?
If you forget your password, you can reset your password using the “forgot password?” link that is now present on the college website’s “Single Sign-On” login page beneath the username and password fields. When you click this link, follow the on-screen instructions to reset your Hudson Valley password. For more information about what to expect, visit the documentation page located at: Username and Password Help
Please note: once you reset your password, it can take up to 15 minutes to become active on the college’s systems.
When will I still receive a paper mailing?
Some paper mailings still occur. To protect your security, Hudson Valley sends a confirmation letter whenever your password was successfully reset. If you forget both your password and the answers to your security questions, then your password can be reset using the previous process, which willl generate letters via the US Postal Service to the home address on file with the college.
If you have any questions about this change, please contact the ITS Helpdesk by calling (518) 629-7364.
