Pharmacy Technician Career Training Program begins Aug. 21

Register NOW for the Pharmacy Technician Career Training Program. A new session — offered both online or in a blended classroom/online format —  begins Thursday, Aug. 21!

Prepare for a career in pharmacy, beginning as a Pharmacy Technician! Both job training and preparation for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam are provided by this course. There is an increasing demand from pharmacies for well-trained pharmacy technicians, especially those who have passed the certification exam.

This training program focuses primarily on the retail pharmacy industry and emphasizes the importance of customer service. Those students who wish to work in hospital or veterinary pharmacies will generally receive additional on-the-job training specific to those environments.

Both online-only and blended classroom/online formats are offered, plus an instructor-led internship in an Albany-area pharmacy is available to all students! Those who select the blended classroom/online format will attend classroom sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the college’s Albany Extension Center, located at 175 Central Ave., and online sessions on Friday evenings, totaling 108 hours. The six internship classes are included in those hours, but students may opt out of the internship and complete the extra work online.

The online-only format provides the flexibility to learn on your own schedule. You will participate in discussion boards with fellow students and will have e-mail access to the instructor, who will be online on Fridays, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All students have the option of participating in the three-hour internship classes held in an Albany-area pharmacy for the course’s final six Thursday sessions. (Note: A background check showing no felonies or drug-related criminal offenses is required for participation in the internship.)
