Pharmacy Technician: Blended Classroom/Online Option or Online-Only Option (108 hours, 10.8 CEUs, Non-Credit)
You can prepare for a career in pharmacy, beginning as a pharmacy technician. This training is now available in two convenient formats: an online-only course and as a blended classroom/online course.
This course provides both job training and preparation for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). It focuses on the retail pharmacy industry and emphasizes the importance of customer service.
Pharmacy Technician training is offered in two formats:
Blended Classroom/Online Option
This course includes 25 three-hour in-person sessions, including an 18-hour internship in a pharmacy and 11 three-hour online sessions, totaling 108 hours. The classroom sessions are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the college’s Albany Extension Center, located on the 4th floor of 175 Central Ave. The online sessions are scheduled for each Friday, with both the students and the instructor participating independently, but simultaneously.
Online Option
This course is conducted exclusively online. Students are provided e-mail access to the instructor and participate in discussion boards with fellow students. Our online students also have the option of participating in an 18-hour internship, which is held in an Albany-area pharmacy.
The internship is comprised of six sessions at a pharmacy and attendance is required for course completion.
Please Note: Most pharmacies require a background check of their job applicants, and students who participate in the internship component of this program must pass a background check with no felonies or drug-related criminal offenses on their records.
Prerequisites: Minimum 10th grade reading and math skill levels; basic computer skills; access to a personal computer with Internet access.
Textbooks: Books, costing approximately $150, will be available for purchase at the Viking’s Cove Bookstore.
