Internationally-reknowned author and poet Lasana M. Sekou will visit Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday, Apr. 14. There will be two opportunities to hear Mr. Sekou recite his poetry and discuss his work from noon to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the BTC Auditorium.
Mr. Sekou is the author of 13 books of poetry, monologues and short stories. He is considered one of the prolific Caribbean poets of his generation. His books, such as “The Salt Pepper,” “Poems From The Flats,” “37 Poems,” “Nativity” and “Brotherhood of the Spurs” have been required reading at Caribbean, North American and European universities. His poems have been translated into Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Turkish and Chinese.
Mr. Sekou earned a bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and a master’s degree from Howard University, and has presented papers and recited poetry at cultural and literary conferences and festivals in the Caribbean, North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
