A New York State semifinal round of Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation competition for high school students, returned to the Hudson Valley Community College campus on Friday, Feb. 24 following a two-year hiatus when virtual competitions were held. The event was open to the public.
The winner, Pamela White from Bethlehem Central High School, and runner-up, Gia Rodriguez from Schenectady High School, now move on to the New York State final to be held Saturday, March 11 at the Center for Fiction in Brooklyn. The competition is conducted by the Poetry Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, and coordinated in New York State by the Teachers & Writers Collaborative with support from the NYS Council on the Arts.
