On the eve of the special election in Alabama to fill a vacant U.S. Senate seat, Alice Malavasic, associate professor in the Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences, has posted a “guest blog” on the University of North Carolina Press’s website.
Entitled “The Momentous Issue of Our National Soul,” the article explores the state of national affairs the last time senators were expelled from Congress in 1862 during the Civil War.
The UNC Press published Malavasic’s first book, The F Street Mess,” in 2017.
She also contributed an earlier guest blog, “What’s In A Name,” that provides some historical context to recent attempts by the Republican-controlled Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
