Professor Tamu Chambers shares documentary about Ghana

 

Tamu Chambers, a professor in the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department, has directed and produced a documentary following her fall 2017 residency at the University of Ghana in Accra, West Africa.

Entitled “An African Journey: Cradel of Civilization,” the documentary provides insights for African American and African Studies, and is available for professors and history classes.

The documentary includes an introduction by Dr. Ibipo Johnston-Anumonwo, professor of geographic education at SUNY Cortland, who discusses the geography of the African continent. In addition, Dr. Seth Asumah, department chair of African American Studies at SUNY Cortland, shares a story about his father’s relationship with the former president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (1909-1972). Nkrumah was a Ghanaian politician and revolutionary, who served as the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957.

Kevin Buess in the Multimedia and Video Services department, co-produced the documentary.
