Part-time Advising Specialist HV-NTP-2040
Applicants must be currently employed by the college as either a faculty member or non-teaching professional.
Hudson Valley Community College is looking to build a pool of advisors from specific academic disciplines for their applicable departments. The Advising Specialist pool will be for Department Chairs to deploy as needed.

Advising Specialists are currently needed in multiple areas, primarily STEM: Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Architectural Technology, Automotive Management, Automotive Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering Technology, Clean Energy Management, Computer Aided Drafting, Construction, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Engineering Science, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Physical Sciences, HVAC, and Liberal Arts and Science: Mathematics and Science. Please note: There are no positions available within the INS, BUS or LAS areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in the area to be advised or related area; experience in student development programming or teaching at the post-secondary level and significant experience with academic advising. Demonstrated experience in student programming to support academic success; demonstrated ability to interact with students, faculty, and college staff. Must possess strong counseling and communication skills.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Advising Specialist reports to the Department Chair and/or their designee and performs the following duties:
— Provides academic advisement to students in applicable departments.
— Advises students on career objectives, transfer opportunities and program choice.
— Assists students in the selection and scheduling of courses.
— Evaluates transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson.
— Advises students of the Impact of scheduling decisions on financial aid and academic standing
— Refers students to available student development and academic support resources when appropriate.
— Participates in academic activities within the appropriate Department.
— Maintains appropriate records of student advisement sessions.
— Provides assistance to students seeking course withdrawal, termination, cross-registration and curriculum change.
— Maintains working knowledge of college services, policies and procedures affecting the academic success of the student.
— Works collaboratively with other advisors to develop In-person and web-based tools to assist students with the advisement and registration process.
— Performs other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Hourly rate: $30
