Summertime is a time for fun and relaxation for many. For members of the Phi Theta Kappa Society at HVCC it is also a time to be of service.
This summer, members started a new initiative to help support Camp Scully, located on Snyder’s Lake in North Greenbush. Each week, PTK volunteers visit the Northeastern Regional Food Bank in Latham to supply healthy food items for the children attending the camp.
On July 11, a group of enthusiastic PTK volunteers visited the food bank and went “shopping” in the warehouse for watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, apples, vegetable trays, yogurt, milk, bread, potatoes, juice, and water. The group transported the items to Camp Scully where they met with the gregarious director, Colin Stewart. He works with children in Pre-K through 11th grade that attend the day and overnight camp. This summer they are hosting up to 180 day campers and 75 overnight campers. The camp takes pride in its “unplug from technology” policy to allow the campers to connect with nature, engage in physical exercise and make new friends.
Camp Scully is a non-profit organization of Catholic Charities Tri-County Services. For more information, visit: https://www.campscully.camp
