The end of September certainly is a busy time of the year, especially for the members of the Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at HVCC.
Members of the PTK Honor Society again volunteered at the Northeastern Regional Food Bank in Latham on Sept. 27. They sorted through hundreds of pounds of refrigerated food donations that required careful handling to ensure freshness and quality as they reached their final destinations. The food bank collects donations from supermarkets and groceries throughout New York State, which are carefully sorted and distributed to various local charities. The PTK volunteers took this opportunity to help the community, as well as to develop their leadership and service skills.

Beginning the week of Sept. 28, the campus chapter will kick off its College Project that was developed in collaboration with the HVCC President, Dr. Roger Ramsammy, and Ronalyn Wilson, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs that ties to the college’s mission. The focus of the project is to promote the new app “My HVCC” that will help connect the college community.
Students and visitors on the HVCC campus will receive custom wrist bands with the reminder to “Download My HVCC App.” Chapter members will also be at the health screening stations on campus to assist those downloading the app and to answer questions about it. Members will hang posters around campus as reminders to download the app and join zoom classes to talk about the app to students who are not on campus.
An important goal of the College Project is to engage chapter members with the campus community and highlight the core values of Phi Theta Kappa: Scholarship, Leadership, Service & Fellowship.
