The Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international honor society is very excited to announce our Black History Month celebration on campus! All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the event on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunication Center Auditorium.
The program will feature live music and performances:
- Choir Club members sing an African American spiritual
- Phi Theta Kappa Officer Richard Kohler plays a ragtime piano song by composer and pianist Scott Joplin
- Open Mic open to any student or staff member who wishes to perform poetry, music, a short story or other creative expression (see below for sign-up information)
In the spirit of this year’s theme, Black Health and Wellness, please consider bringing non-perishable food items to donate to the college’s Viking Cupboard Food Pantry. We will collect donated items in the BTC Auditorium.
We hope this will be a great opportunity for our students, choir club members and others to showcase their amazing talents in celebration of Black History Month. PTK’s last Black History Month Open Mic was inspirational!
Anyone is welcome to book an Open Mic time slot (5-15 minutes) by contacting PTK Advisor Renay Williams at r.williams1@hvcc.edu or PTK Officer Richard Kohler at r-kohler@hvcc.edu as soon as possible!
