Members of the Public Safety Department, consistent with the college’s and its own mission to foster a safe environment for students and staff, are proud to announce its newest recruit – a certified therapy dog!
Her name is Butter. She is a dachshund mix who was recently certified by testers from TDI (Therapy Dogs International). She has a wonderful temperament and works with her handler Terry Buchanan, a campus security officer. She has been mixing it up with students and staff, engaging and elevating morale.
Dogs possess a unique ability to offer comfort, alleviate stress and keep people compassionately engaged with their environment. Therapy dogs create an atmosphere of engagement, social interaction and emotional support. Butter is most often at the desk in the Guenther Enrollment Services Center, where she greets incoming students and visitors. She is eager to move about the college and foster relationships with all. There are plans for her also to represent the college at events throughout the community.
Please stop by to visit Butter. She loves meeting and interacting with people. Wherever she might be on campus, she’s looking forward to a chance to “butter you up!”
