Here’s what to do if in the event of a Medical Emergency.
Cardiac Arrest/Heart Attack
- Assess the scene for danger.
- Check the victim.
- Call or instruct someone to call (518) 629-7210 to advise Public Safety of the emergency and to activate EMS.
- Perform CPR until first responder arrives on site.
- When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
Burns
- Assess the scene for danger.
- Remove the source of the burn (if possible).
- Flush the affected area with water.
- Do not apply dressings, creams or lotion to the affected area.
- Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.
- Seek the appropriate level of care.
- When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
Bleeding
- Apply firm but gentle pressure to the wound with a clean cloth, towel, tissues,
- Immobilize the affected area.
- If the bleeding is significant, keep the person lying down.
- Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.
- Seek the appropriate level of care.
- When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
Seizures
- Keep the patient safe by removing furnishings from the area if possible.
- Do not insert object in the patient’s mouth. Do not restrain the individual.
- Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS
- Seek the appropriate level of care.
- When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
Fall
- Assess the area for safety. (Look out for vehicles or other dangers.)
- If in a safe place, keep the victim immobile.
- Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.
- Seek the appropriate level of care.
- When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
Occupational Exposure
- Assess the area for safety and leave the affected area to limit the exposure.
- Call public safety at (518) 629 7210 to advise the campus of the emergency and to activate EMS.
- Seek the appropriate level of care.
- When able to do so, Contact Health Services to complete an accident/incident report.
