Recognizing Diana Albarrán Chicas

As part of our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize Diana Albarrán Chicas. She was born in Mexico and came to the United States under her parents’ vision of a better life for their children. She was the first one in her family to graduate from high school and attend college. She graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Albarrán Chicas is the co-founder of the Latinas in STEM Foundation, and served as an Advisor to Latina SciGirls, a PBS Kids show that exposes elementary and middle-school girls to STEM careers.

She is a recipient of numerous awards including being recognized as a Latina Leader in STEM by NBC Latino and Latino Leaders Magazine as a “Rising Star in Tech.”

Diana Albarrán Chicas is currently a director at Maxar Technologies, where she oversees Cost and Schedule, and Internal Research and Development. She is responsible for the integrity of proposals and the development of future space technologies.

Be sure to check out more Campus Chronicle articles from the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion throughout the month as we will continue to highlight trailblazers from the Hispanic/Latinx community.
