Region 3 Champions! Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

On Saturday, the men’s and women’s track and field programs won the NJCAA Region 3 championships, which were held at Herkimer College in Little Falls, NY.

The women earned the program’s first-ever Region 3 title as they accumulated 208 team points, defeating SUNY Broome by 117 points. The women’s team was highlighted by Athena Seebald’s success in four different events, 10,000M, 1500M, 800M and the 3,000M Steeplechase. Her outstanding performances earned her the Region 3 Female Track Athlete of the Meet award.

Angelica Slingerland and her twin sister Jessica Slingerland had outstanding days in the field events. Combined, the duo scored 50 team points with Angelica earning the title of Region 3 Female Field Athlete of the Meet. She placed second in the shot put, javelin and hammer throw events. Jessica won the hammer throw and placed third in the javelin and discus events.

For the men’s team, they won the championship by a narrow margin, defeating Onondaga by 22 points. The men’s team won eight events, with Jair Oliva leading the way with victories in the 200M, 400M, 4x100M relay and the 4x400M relay events. Cole Harris won the 3,000M Steeplechase event and later placed second in the 800M event.

The men’s team earned three, top-5 finishes in the 400M Hurdles as Xavier Hughes won the event in a time of 57.90 and was followed by Chauncey Khamani (2nd) and Ashon Oliver (4th). Samuel Faga took home the 5,000M championship and in the jump events, Makai Gordon and Camryn Curet jumped 1.88M to place first and second in the high jump. Curet also placed second in the long jim with a distance of 6.24M. Dylan Izzo earned the Region 3 title in the javelin with a winning throw of 40.55M.
