As part of the PRODiG grant awarded to Hudson Valley Community College, a series of free online STEM workshops will be held this summer. The award-winning STEM Outreach Workshop Initiative (SOWI), created by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is aimed at attracting participants from under-served minority populations who otherwise might not be able to access STEM programming.
The free SOWI Workshops include program languages for games, robotics and business environments. There will also be opportunities to learn about other programs at HVCC to continue skill development in STEM.
Participants in middle school, high school and adult caregivers are invited to join in the fun! A device with internet access is required.
Registration is open now on a first-come, first-serve basis. The SOWI Workshop kickoff begins Saturday, June 5 with full workshops starting Saturday, June 12. Visit https://bit.ly/33gVzb2 for secure registration. (Please contact m.louis@hvcc.edu with any questions about the registration form.)
NEW in July 2021 is the debut of SOWI’s “STEM is Elementary,” a summer program for students entering 4th and 5th grades. More details to come!
Please consider donating to the SOWI Outreach fund to help a student attend. Visit https://www.hvcc.edu/giving/online.html and select GIFT DESIGNATION: ODEI — Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion STEM Outreach Fund.
For questions about the programs, please contact Taunya Hannibal-Williams, community outreach specialist in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, at SOWI@hvcc.edu.
