Distribution Exercise and College Emergency Drill
Friday, May 1 — 7 a.m. to noon
McDonough Sports Complex
The Rensselaer County Health Department and other community public health partners will perform a Point of Distribution (POD) exercise in the McDonough Field House from 7 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 1.
A POD location is where health departments distribute medication or provide medical treatment in the event of a real emergency situation, such as a bio-hazard release, a widespread severe influenza outbreak, or an outbreak of a disease like Ebola or Anthrax .
This on-campus POD drill is intended to improve the Health Department’s ability to respond to emergencies. Nearly 100 county staff members will be on site and more than 500 participants from local community groups will volunteer as patients.
Please note: POD staff and participants will use I Lot (across North Road from B Lot) for parking, which will restrict access for students, faculty and staff.
In addition, during the POD exercise, the college’s emergency response committee will conduct a “tabletop” drill to practice crisis response procedures of our own.
