Richard Monda, an instructor in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, is recipient of an honorable mention award for an article about the total solar eclipse in the summer of 2017.
Monda earned the honorable mention in the sixth annual Joan and Arnold Seidel Griffith Observer Science Writing Contest for his first-hand account of observing the total solar eclipse in Glendo, Wyoming.
The article is titled, “Chasing the Moon’s Shadow Again, Another Totally Awesome Experience (the Sequel).” An account of Monda’s first eclipse trip to see the Aruba total solar eclipse on Feb. 26, 1998 also received an honorable mention in this science writing contest and was published in the Griffith Observer in 1999. That’s why it’s called “the sequel.”
The Griffith Observer is a publication of the Griffith Observatory, a.k.a. the Los Angeles Planetarium. The latest article will be published sometime within the next 12 months.
In the meantime, you can read a nearly identical article that appeared in The Daily Gazette on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017.
