On Feb. 12, students in the RPI-HVCC Semiconductors Scholars Program visited GlobalFoundries in Malta to tour parts of the facility, meet professionals working in the semiconductor field and get direct experience with job opportunities in the industry.
The students learned about the wide range of activities that support the chip manufacturing process, such as characterizing chips at the atomic level with electron microscopes and maintaining the maze of pipework beneath the facility that keeps it going 24/7.
The students will visit again soon for a tour of the cleanroom where millions of chips are manufactured each year.
