One and all are welcome to attend a community viewing party with a live video stream of the Salt City Bowl in the BTC auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 6. The party gets under way at 12:30 p.m. with lunch and a pre-game show. The Salt City Bowl is set for 2:07 p.m. in Gowans Stadium, Hutchinson, KS, when the Vikings (8-1) meet the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons (10-1).
The Vikings football program, ranked #19 in the NJCAA, had its best season since an 8-0 finish in 1996. The Vikings’ last bowl game was the 2003 Graphic Edge Bowl that they lost to Ellsworth Community College, 29-23. Hudson Valley previously played in the 1980 Coca-Cola Bowl, losing 17-14 to Iowa Central.
“We are excited to be a part of the Salt City Bowl and to play one of the top teams in the nation. We had a great season, but it didn’t end how we wanted it to with our last regular season game. We have another chance to redeem ourselves and we are excited about the opportunity,” Head Coach Mike Muehling said.
Having lost only to #2 Iowa Western, Hutchinson’s Blue Dragons bring in the No. 6 rushing attack in the nation, led by former Alabama transfer Alvin Kamara. Kamara is No. 5 in the nation in rushing with 1,253 yards and No. 3 in rushing touchdowns with 18.
