Save a Life! Join “Be The Match” on Nov. 16 in the Campus Center

Every year, 12,000 patients are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma or diseases like sickle cell.  A blood stem cell transplant from a donor may be their only chance at a cure.

Do you want to help potentially save a life? You can. The college will host a Be The Match event in the Siek Campus Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Be The Match connects people who have life-threatening diseases with a matching donor for blood stem cell transplants. Participants will be asked to register with Be the Match and then simply show up for a saliva swab.

If you are a match, further blood tests will be requested, but as volunteers, you are never under obligation to donate.

Donors between ages 18 and 40 who meet health guidelines are eligible to participate, at no cost.

For more information about Be the Match or to volunteer to help with the event on Nov. 16, contact Julie Warren at j.warren@hvcc.edu.
