Dear Faculty and Staff,
Do you know any truly outstanding students who might be interested in competing for national scholarships? On behalf of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), we are currently accepting nominations for the 2017-2018 All-USA Community College Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Programs. Approximately $400,000 in scholarships will be awarded to outstanding community college students across the nation, and we have an opportunity to nominate four students from Hudson Valley Community College.
Your role in this is simple – just send me a name or refer your student(s) to contact me at the information given below. The nomination process is open to any Hudson Valley student, and students do not need to be members of PTK to apply.
In addition to financial awards, in partnership with USA TODAY, Follett Higher Education Group, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, AACC, and Phi Theta Kappa, scholarship recipients will be featured in an April issue of USA TODAY. The College has the opportunity to nominate up to four students: two students who intend to transfer for further study, and two students who intend to enter the workforce.
This national recognition program is highly competitive. Eligible students will demonstrate outstanding academic performance in a rigorous program, participation in honors programs and recognition for academic achievement, and service to the college and community. As part of their applications, students write an essay describing how they have utilized their community college education to improve the college or the community. In these essays, evaluators look for innovative, creative, original and lasting achievements.
Please encourage your students to apply. We have sent emails to students as well. If you would like to recommend someone, please feel free to send me a name or refer a student to contact me at r.whitaker@hvcc.edu by Nov. 8. (In the subject line of the email, please include “All USA nomination” – thank you.) This will allow us time to follow up with the student directly and assist them with the application process, prior to the national deadline.
Thank you for your consideration.
