Welcome to the Spring 2021 semester!
The mission of the Center for Effective Teaching (CET) is to create opportunities for faculty and staff to learn about technology, pedagogy, instructional resources, and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of teaching, learning, and leadership at Hudson Valley Community College.
Throughout the semester, we will offer a variety of professional development workshop and trainings for you to attend. These will be announced via email, the Campus Chronicle and will be posted on the CET website.
We are currently looking for ideas for workshops, especially in the area of technology. If you have ideas/suggestions for a workshop and/or would like to present a workshop, please let me know.
Faculty Mentors
In addition to workshops, the CET coordinates the Faculty Mentors in the Faculty Resource Room (BTC 1052) and remotely. Faculty mentors are “go-to” people who have been cross-trained on the equipment that any faculty member will encounter in the classroom. Mentors can help with the instructor consoles, basic computer tasks, computer software, and pedagogical areas such as learning styles, syllabi, and with quick questions about the campus in general. Mentors will be available daily/on demand via zoom (email mentors@hvcc.edu to set up a time) as well as in person a few times during the week. A schedule, once finalized, will be posted on the CET calendar.
Faculty Resource Room
Lastly, the Faculty Resource Room is available for use by all faculty. Located in BTC 1052, the Faculty Resource Room offers faculty the opportunity to experiment with technology similar to what is available in the classrooms and computer labs. It is also a place where faculty can complete other tasks that include photocopying, grading, reading, or conducting brief meetings in between classes. The room is equipped with a photocopier, computers, Scantron, and color printer.
We invite you to stop in anytime to explore the facilities. To access the Faculty Resource Room, use the code for the keypad on the door. If you do not have the code, please email Tara Farley-Wyckoff (t.farleywyckoff@hvcc.edu) or myself. Please remember, students are not allowed in the Faculty Resource Room.
Please note: Regarding the Faculty Resource Room (FRR) and Covid-19: There is hand sanitizer on the wall across from the FRR. Please use the sanitizer before and after using the keypad on the door. Also, it is very important that you sign in every time you use the FRR (even if it’s just to make a quick copy). For contact tracing purposes, we need everybody who enters the room to sign in. Also, be mindful of signage and maintaining social distancing. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to working with you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
