Shakespeare & Company, one of the country’s premier theater groups, will return to campus for its 10th annual residency at the Maureen Stapleton Theatre from Monday, Feb. 18 through Friday, Feb. 22. Workshops are open to all students, faculty and staff, and two performances are open free to all.
During the residency, company members will conduct a variety of workshops and will perform Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” (Tuesday, Feb. 19) and “The Taming of the Shrew” (Thursday, Feb. 21). Both performances will be noon to 1:30 p.m. and suitable for ages 10 and up. The full residency schedule is listed below.
If you have never seen a Shakespeare & Company performance, you will be amazed by how compelling the play’s action and story become through the company’s skill and dynamic involvement, and how accessible they make the rich language. Workshop participants will interact with well-trained professional actors and instructors and enjoy a range of activities. Shakespeare & Company members are well-known not only for their performances, but also for their compassionate and insightful approach to teaching.
The residency is an experience from which anyone — whatever their field of study — can benefit. For more information, please contact Theatre Arts Assistant Professor Rosanne Raneri at r.raneri@hvcc.edu. The residency is sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Program.
