Spring 2020 internships available

Opportunities are available for student internships in two areas for Spring 2020:

1. New York State Assembly part-time internship
Students work nine hours per week in the Assembly and attend a one-hour class on campus weekly. A great opportunity to learn about policy making in New York State, gain valuable experience, and make professional contacts. Students who complete this internship can earn four credits by enrolling in/attending POLS 200 Internship in Politics and Government.

2. Center for Law and Policy Solutions
Paid internships are offered through the Center for Law and Policy Solutions (CLPS) at the Rockefeller Institute of Government in downtown Albany. This internship requires 10 hours per week. This is a great chance to learn about a cutting-edge policy issue facing New York State and to develop potential recommendations to policymakers. Students who complete this internship can earn four credits by enrolling in/attending POLS 200 Internship in Politics and Government.

These internships are ideal for students with strong writing and communication skills, and an interest in public affairs, politics, or policy. Both internships require a brief application process. Deadlines to apply for these internships are fast approaching. So if you are interested, please contact Prof. Robert Whitaker at r.whitaker@hvcc.edu right away!

The deadline for CLPS internship applications is Friday, Dec. 13. For students interested in the New York State Assembly internship, applications are available in MRV 104 and must be returned to MRV 104 no later than Wednesday, Dec. 18. (Note: Students who have already picked up NYS Assembly internship applications, should return them to MRV 104 by Wednesday, Dec. 18).
