Student Art League Celebrates Zine Release and New Exhibit from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12

The Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts & Digital Media announces a release party on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Amstuz Hall, room 316. The dual event celebrates release of the latest issue of The Mutt, a zine published by the Student Art League, and a concurrent ProjectSpace 320 opening reception for “Limited Run: A Show of Zines, Small Press Publications and Etc.” ProjectSpace 320 is a small gallery/project space located within the drawing studio (AMZ 317).

The Mutt zine has been organized, edited, designed and printed in collaboration with the college’s Communications and Graphics departments every semester since 2013, including the Pandemic remote years! The zine draws on the rich tradition of DIY self-published magazines and features graphics, writing and artwork by Student Art League members, as well as submissions from other Fine Arts and Digital Media students.

Concurrent with The Mutt release party, ProjectSpace 320 will host the opening reception of its second exhibition, “Limited Run: A Show of Zines, Small Press Publications and Etc.,” organized by Professor Thomas Lail and featuring zines and small press publications from 1990 to the present.

Lail and other members of the Fine Arts and Digital Media faculty – Professor and Teaching Gallery Director Tara Fracalossi, Assistant Professor Justin Baker and Assistant Professor Jason Van Staveren – loaned materials for the “Limited Run” exhibit.

All are welcome to stop by AMZ 316 from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. The gathering provides another opportunity to visit the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department’s new art studios located on the third floor of Amstutz Hall.
