The New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges was held April 8-10 in Corning, NY. Mary Beth Hampshire, Beth Kane, Sue Kutryb, Peter Stix and Walton Yoder from the MES department and Sohair Habib and Judy Zamurs from the LAC were in attendance. Peter gave a presentation entitled “Going in Circles,” which was very well received.
The results of the state-wide math contest sponsored by NYSMATYC and given to two-year college students were announced at the conference. Hudson Valley came in first!
Our team consisted of Kirk Hansen, Jonathan Gould, Brook Caro, Zachary Menteur and Andrew Mueller. Each student will receive a mug indicating this accomplishment and the “travelling plaque” will be housed in the Math and Engineering Science Department in the BTC for a year.
Kirk Hansen and Zachary Menteur scored fourth and 10th out of all participants in the combined fall and spring semesters. These students each received software. Xiaohu Nian, Pongsakorn Phuaree and Mark Tremblay also will receive mugs in recognition of their high scores on the contest in the fall semester.
