During October and November, the Academic Senate Planning Committee will sponsor numerous focus group opportunities for campus constituents to share their thoughts about our strengths and needs for improvement, as well as ideas for future directions.
Each focus group session will take just an hour and will offer a few thought-provoking questions in a relaxed atmosphere. The Planning Committee is looking not only to involve as many representatives from the various groups (students, faculty, staff, administration, etc.) as possible, but also to obtain creative feedback.
The sessions will involve about 10 people each and are designed to be somewhat fast-paced but at the same time laid-back, so that people feel free to express themselves. Each participant from the student, faculty, and staff groups is assured of confidentiality. Except for scheduling, no names will be recorded; the only identifying information gathered will be each person’s role at the college, for statistical purposes. The scheduling sheet will be kept as a separate document from documents reflecting focus-group responses.
We will have a moderator (Vonnie Vannier) to keep the discussion moving and a note-taker for each session, who will gather input, but, again, no names. While many of the sessions will take place during the day, there will be some early-evening opportunities evening students.
The strategic plan will guide the college for the next five years, and the participation of people from all campus groups will help ensure that the plan is rich, vibrant, and serves to keep the college moving in a positive direction.
Below is a listing of the times set to date. Please note that times are set for students OR faculty OR staff OR a combination in a couple of cases. If you would like to reserve a spot in one of the sessions, please e-mail Vonnie (v.vannier@hvcc.edu). Please choose a session that fits your role at the college, unless you prefer to join a mixed group.
