Sustainability Tip of The Week

Sustainability Tip of the Week
A simple wish for a better tomorrow

It might take a little extra effort to find and purchase, but simple items we use every day like toothbrushes can make a difference. When making sustainable purchases, consider how much energy went into the production, transportation and ultimate disposal of the item. All these steps need to be factored to determine the carbon footprint of the item. This is why the “buy local” movement is so important.

Debra O’Keefe from the Teacher Preparation Department had a great idea to purchase biodegradable toothbrushes. Toothbrushes are something we all use and when they are discarded, the old plastic toothbrushes  sit in landfills for decades. Thanks for sharing, Debra!
