What is YuJa?
YuJa is a replacement for TechSmith Knowmia as TechSmith decided to pull out of the higher education market for their enterprise video platform. YuJa is an easy-to-use video creation and sharing platform with robust accessibility support for video content. It also has features for student engagement with quizzing, analytics, and more.
Knowmia to YuJa Transition Details and Timeline
- March 2, 2022: Faculty Workshop Day Kick-off
- Thank you to all who attended the presentation at Faculty Workshop Day and learned about this exciting transition.
- March 7, 2022:
- Immediate first step for all TechSmith Knowmia users is to login to YuJa through Blackboard to establish a user folder. This folder will be the target for your migrated video content – your library.
- How to Access YuJa
- Login to Blackboard and go to a course
- From the Course Menu, select the Add Menu Item (+) symbol, and choose Tool Link from the menu
- Enter YuJa Video Platform in the Name: cell
- Select YuJa Video Platform from the Type: drop-down list
- Available to Users checkbox
- Leave unchecked until you are ready for students to access it
- Available to Users checkbox
- Select Submit
- March 14, 2022: TechSmith Knowmia begins the video and metadata export. This process is lengthy and will take three to four weeks. AND this is the date that the Zoom ingestion will switch from TechSmith Knowmia to YuJa.
- This is the “cut off” date for having your Knowmia videos migrated for you to YuJa. Any video created in Knowmia from March 14 on must be downloaded and uploaded to YuJa manually by you, and it must be done before June 30 when our account with Knowmia will be terminated.
- Also important is where to look for your Zoom recordings. Any Zoom recordings saved to the cloud prior to March 14 will still be available in TechSmith Knowmia, along with your full library of TechSmith Knowmia videos. After March 14 (or effectively when you return from Spring Break on March 21) all Zoom recordings will be saved to the YuJa platform. So, look for NEW Zoom recordings in YuJa when the semester resumes.
- April 14: This is the anticipated date that YuJa will receive the exported metadata from TechSmith Knowmia in an encrypted format.
- April 14 – approximately April 19: YuJa will look at exported metadata from TechSmith Knowmia and will draft a Professional Service Agreement to be signed by HVCC, outlining the mutual expectations of the metadata migration. Once this Agreement is signed, the migration into YuJa will begin on that date.
- April 19: Start of the migration into YuJa (approx. 30 days). This will bring everything into the system in an administrative folder.
- May 20 – June 3: Folder Migration (approximately 2 weeks). This is when your video and data will be placed in your individual folders. This will only work with folders that already exist, so it is extremely important that all faculty using TechSmith Knowmia make folders ASAP! Go to Blackboard and access the LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) for YuJa. This will automatically create a folder for you.
- June 4 – June 11: Quiz Migration (1 week). This is only for people with Quizzes.
- June 30: Last day TechSmith Knowmia will exist for HVCC. After this date, all data and video content, including Zoom recordings, will be gone and there will be no way to retrieve them.
Additional information:
- Please review your Zoom recordings folder in TechSmith Knowmia and delete videos that are no longer used or never used. It will be immensely helpful if you complete this in the week of March 7 before the export begins. This will ensure that Zoom recordings you are not using will not be pulled into YuJa.
- All TechSmith Knowmia content and Zoom recordings will be available without interruption during the transition. Use them as you are using them now.
- Regular updates will be posted as the migration progresses and the cutover date nears.
- YuJa is installed in Blackboard and just as we had a TechSmith Knowmia LTI to allow quizzing and grading, we have this for YuJa.
- Training! Training materials and a schedule are being prepared. If you would like a sneak preview, take a look at these YuJa created tutorials.
