The CAE presents at the 2023 SUNY Student Success Summit

The Center for Academic Engagement (CAE) presented at the virtual 2023 SUNY Student Success Summit on April 28.

Interim Associate Director Jane Meek presented a review of the SUNY Family Empowerment Grant that serves single parents attending college. Jane was on a panel that discussed the sustainability of the single-parent program at Hudson Valley Community College, called Success Amongst Student Parents (SASP), as the SUNY Family Empowerment Grant comes to a close on June 30 of this year.

SASP has served over 24 single-parent students during the 2022-2023 academic year and a total of 83 students over the last three years. SASP services include emergency scholarships to assist with living expenses, Price Chopper and Stewart’s gift cards, and assistance with child care and summer camp expenses. SASP will continue to be a program offered by the CAE to support this unique population with the goal of removing barriers and improving retention and persistence rates for single-parent students. The college is are actively seeking funding opportunities to continue supporting this student cohort.

Please refer single-parent students seeking to become part of the SASP program to Jane Meek (j.meek@hvcc.edu) in the CAE office.
