SUNY continues to recognize the importance of technology for students, faculty, and staff in the classroom and throughout the campus, especially with programs that include #EMTechMOOC (Emerging Technology Massive Online Course), SUNY Open Education Resources, the SUNY Center for Professional Development, and the SUNY Tools of Engagement Project.
To support SUNY’s recognition and the implementation of the college’s Five-Year Strategic Plan that includes utilizing technology to help increase student success, effective teaching, and outstanding leadership, the Center for Effective Teaching (CET) has developed a certificate that emphasizes training in technology.
Technology in the Classroom and Beyond Certification of Completion Program
Hudson Valley Community College recognizes the importance of technology in the classroom to support its mission for a diverse and student-centered classroom.
The CET developed the Technology in the Classroom and Beyond Certificate Program as a way for faculty to enhance their teaching through emerging technologies while expanding their skill set through this professional development program. To earn this certificate, participants will complete six hours of training through courses from each of three topic areas for a total of 18 training hours:
- Six hours of training in Blackboard (not including those who are currently developing an online/web-enhanced course)
- Six hours of training in Software Programs
- Six hours of training in Emerging Technologies
Substitutions for CET courses, such as discipline-specific conferences, seminars, workshops, and classes, will be considered satisfactory for completion of one-half or 50 percent of the course requirement in each of the three topic areas. Permission for substitutions is requested through the department chairperson.
Certificate program courses are designed by in-house faculty, as well as other academic professionals, and are offered throughout the school year. Additional information about the Technology Certificate Program and professional development can be found by visiting the CET website at http://www.hvcc.edu/cet/profdevelopment/.
