
The CET is proud to announce that Michael Winnie, campus peace officer in the Department of Public Safety, has successfully completed the requirements for the certificate of completion in Leadership Development! He will be recognized formally for his achievement at this year’s Faculty & Staff Honors Convocation.
Mike has been with the college for the past 4 1/2 years. In his tenure at Hudson Valley Community College, Mike always has been interested in his professional and personal development. He is active on campus with both enforcing college regulations and criminal law. He also strives to have good working relationships with other employees on campus and the students at large. He believes that education and training should be ongoing throughout life. “You are never too old or out of tune, to learn new things everyday.”
Mike comes to Hudson Valley after having an outstanding career in law enforcement. He spent 27 years with the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 2000 as a sergeant assigned to the Law Enforcement Division. He later worked part time as a police officer with the Chatham Police Department and in January 2007 was appointed Police Chief with the Town of Stockport Police Department. He has attended many schools and training during his law enforcement career including Police Supervision, Accident Investigation and Reconstruction, Criminal Investigation, Interviewing and Interrogation Techniques, Impaired Driver Recognition, Radar Enforcement, Public Safety Critical Incident management, Incident Command, Supervisory & Employee Ethics and Sex Crime Investigation and numerous others.
Mike also is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of sergeant at the age 19. He was instrumental and the inspiration for Military Memorial located at the new flagpole and pedestal here on campus.
