The Hudsonian, Hudson Valley Community College’s student newspaper, was recognized as the fourth best entry in the Best of Show competition for two-year tabloids at the College Media Association/Associated College Press National Conference held last week in Philadelphia, PA. Awards were announced Nov. 2.
The award marks the highest place The Hudsonian has ever achieved and the first award since receiving one for 10th place in 2011. Members of the award-winning staff are pictured below. Rachel Bornn and Jaime Barrett, associate professor and assistant professor, respectively, in the Department of English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language, serve as advisors to The Hudsonian.
The winning issue included stories about the first female ever to play hockey at Hudson Valley, and a student from Guinea who is raising money for the Ebola outbreak, as well as other campus and athletic events.
Colleges and universities from across the country attended the conference and participated in various competitions and workshops. Awards were given to the top 10 entries in the two-year tabloid category.
The Hudsonian is an independent and student-run weekly publication. It first was published in 1961, following The Technician, the student newspaper when the college was known as Hudson Valley Technical Institute (1954-1959).
The Hudsonian hits the stands every Tuesday throughout the school year and maintains a website at www.hudsonian.org. Students wishing to join an award-winning newspaper may contact The Hudsonian at hudsonian@hvcc.edu.
