The Scott Hopkins Trio performs at noon Thursday, March 6 in the BTC Auditorium

The Scott Hopkins Trio will perform a free concert at noon on Thursday, March 6, as part of Hudson Valley Community College’s popular lunchtime concert series. The one-hour performance will take place in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center (BTC) Auditorium. All are welcome; no reservations or tickets are needed to attend.

The Scott Hopkins Trio features masterful musicians Scott Hopkins on acoustic and electric banjo, Lou Smaldone on upright bass and Brian Melick on drums. The group’s repertoire encompasses originals, jazz standards, roots music, Americana and contemporary tunes that are richly imbued with Hopkins’ strong bluegrass and folk influences. Melick supplies Latin rhythms that combine with Smaldone’s rock-solid bass playing to create a distinctive ensemble sound. Guest saxophonist Kristina Johnson will join the group for this program.

The final concert of the Spring 2025 semester will feature the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, celebrating its 25th anniversary season, at noon on Thursday, April 10, in the BTC Auditorium. Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, founding director on violin, Norman Thibodeau on flute and Sten Isachsen on guitar will perform works by Beethoven, Ibert, Bartok and more.

Both concerts are offered free to the public by HVCC’s Cultural Affairs Program. For additional information, please contact Debby Gardner at d.gardner@hvcc.edu or (518) 629-8071.
