The Theatre Arts Program proudly presents Qui Nguyen’s beloved play “She Kills Monsters,” a poignant and wonderful comedy about two sisters who reconnect through a Dungeons & Dragons adventure. The play is also a love letter from 1995 to nerds and geeks of all ages. This show promises lots of laughs, tender tears, and a fight with a five-headed dragon! A wild romp of a show that will leave you feeling like you can do whatever you imagine
“She Kills Monsters” tells the story of Agnes Evans who leaves her childhood home in Ohio after her teenage sister, Tilly, dies in a car accident. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. Through this 2011 dramatic comedy — laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 90s pop culture, Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
Assistant Professor Rosanne Raneri is directing the student-run production. The production is sponsored by the college’s Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department that is chaired by Scott Hathaway.
Admission is free for HVCC and all other students with a $10 suggested donation for faculty, staff and the public. Performances will run about two hours, including an intermission. The Maureen Stapleton Theatre is located on the first floor of the Siek Campus Center.
