Cross Country
Hudson Valley Community College cross country concluded the 2017 season Saturday, Nov. 4 after competing in the NJCAA Nationals meet hosted by Holyoke Community College at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
The men’s program finished 24th out of the 29th participating teams as Holden Maynard placed 64th overall with an official time of 29:14.
The women’s program had two individuals compete in Saturday’s championship meet as Sarah Rosenberger placed 38th overall with a final time of 21:44 with an average 1K time of 4:21.3. Mercedes Planavsky also competed and finished 54th overall with a final time of 22:30.0 for an average 1K time of 4:30.
Football (1-8) dropped a hard fought match-up, 18-7, to Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) at home on Saturday afternoon.
Taj Beckett finished the game with 13 completions for 253 passing yards and Andres Blanco carried the ball 15 times for 54 yards to lead the Vikings offensively. Shaquille Edmond quickly became Beckett’s top target as he hauled in five catches for 148-yards and a score.
Defensively, Kapone Brown and Isaiah Moak each recorded a sack and combined for 22 total tackles. Richard Eversleigh added eight tackles while Jaleel Kyles and John (Jack) Fitzgerald each had seven total tackles on the afternoon.
Men’s Basketball (1-1) dropped Saturday”s away game against Cayuga, 88-78. The Vikings were led offensively by Mitchell Dame as he scored a team-high 17-points with sophomore guard David Reo adding 16 points as the Vikings couldn’t overcome the late game deficit to Cayuga.
Basketball tipped-off the 2017 season with an 88-83 win over Rockland on Nov. 1. The Vikings had five student-athletes surpass double-digit scoring as Taylor Slattery led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, including 19 points in the second half. Slattery also led the Vikings from behind the arc, hitting four three-pointers on the night.
Men’s basketball is home this Friday, Nov. 10 to play Jefferson at 8 p.m.
Women’s Basketball (1-0) kicked off the 2017 season with an 88-82 victory over Cayuga Community College on Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Kreiger scored a game-high 30-points as she was one of three Vikings to reached double-digit scoring in the season-opener. Taylor Engster hit a team-high five field goals from three-point range and added five clutch free throws in the fourth quarter for 22 points for Hudson Valley.
Women’s basketball is home this Friday, Nov. 10 to play Jefferson at 6 p.m.
