This Week in Athletics

The spring season was in full swing last week, with all seven programs in action.

Baseball: The baseball team is currently ranked No. 10 in the country with a 16-game win streak, which included two wins over Cayuga last week behind phenomenal pitching performances by Hunter Stolov and Andrew Wilson. Baseball is on the road at Cayuga on Tuesday.

If you missed Coach Josh Parrow on Friday’s Big Board Sports with Rodger Wyland, you can listen to the interview here.

Men’s Lacrosse: The lacrosse team improved to 6-3 on the season with a three-game win streak after they defeated Mohawk Valley (13-4) and Tompkins Cortland (14-6) last week. These crucial wins give the Vikings a much-needed advantage in the Region 3 postseason seeding.

Softball: The softball team ran out of sunlight last week as they were ahead of Herkimer 12-7 in the top of the fifth inning. However, the game did not meet the necessary innings for the game to count and the game resulted in a no-contest. The other games they had scheduled last week were rained out. They are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to SUNY Broome.

Track & Field: The track and field team competed at the RPI Under the Lights meet on Friday with the men’s team placed seventh overall with 42 points and the women’s team placed 10th overall with 13 team points. The meet was highlighted by Brooks Robson, who set the school record in the long jump. Robson broke the long jump record which was previously owned by Mike Loszynski, who jumped 6.87-meters on April 14, 1981. Robson set the record on his fifth jump of the day, jumping a record-breaking distance of 6.97-meters (22′ 10.5″). Robson won the triple jump with an official jump of 14.11-meters (46′ 3.5″).

Women’s Tennis: The tennis team traveled to New Jersey for two matches against RCSJ-Gloucester and Camden. They dropped the Gloucester match 6-3 and fell to Camden 5-4. They return home on Monday (today) to take on Castleton University at 4 p.m.

Men’s Golf: The men’s golf team beat the weather on Friday as they were able to compete at the TC3 Panthers Invitational in Cortland, NY. As a team, the men scored a best-four team score of 340, which placed them third overall and were paced by Jonathan Reynolds, who posted an 81 (+10) on the Par 71 course.
