This week in Athletics
Football: The football program took its first loss of the season in a dramatic battle with Sussex County Community College, 26-21, at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at a home night game on Oct. 10.
Sussex stormed to a 19-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, thanks to quarterback Maurice Williams’ dynamic performance, which included a 5-yard touchdown run and two touchdown passes to Malik Baker and Lonnie Crawford. Hudson Valley rallied, scoring three straight touchdowns to take a 21-19 lead late in the fourth quarter, with standout plays from quarterback Cameron Harbaugh.
However, Williams’ 16-yard touchdown pass to Baker with just 45 seconds left in the game secured Sussex’s victory. Recap | Season Stats
Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team finished the week with a 1-1 record, dropping one game against nationally-ranked Herkimer. The Vikings went on the road and defeated North Country, 3-2, in Saranac Lake. The team celebrated its graduating class over the weekend and will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for a road match at Adirondack at 7 p.m. Recaps | Season Stats
Women’s Soccer: The women’s soccer team closed out the regular season last week, dropping both games to North Country and Herkimer. The team now waits for the Region 3 seeding committee to determine the playoff seeds and schedule. The soccer team can potentially host the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 19. Men’s & Women’s Cross Country: The men’s and women’s cross country programs traveled to compete in the annual James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA. The men’s team had a solid performance in the 8K race. Their top finisher was Drew Schroeder (Ghent/HSED), placing 61st overall with a time of 28:55.89, averaging a mile pace of 5:49.
The women’s team competed in the 5K race. Leading the team was Athena Seebald (Wynantskill/Columbia), who placed 96th overall with a time of 22:33.03, maintaining an average mile pace of 7:15.5. Recaps
Women’s Volleyball: The volleyball team is having a great season as it improved to 12-5 and has won eight of its last nine matches. The team is in a battle with Adirondack and Onondaga, both teams will play the Vikings this Saturday, Oct. 19 at home in the McDonough Sports Complex. Recaps | Season Stats
