Men’s and women’s bowling participated in three matches last week and performed very well in each of them.
The men finished in second place in the conference match hosted by Schenectady County Community College (5,761). Nathan Laustrup (Troy/Lansingburgh) placed ninth with a high game of 223, a high series of 635 for a total of 1,161 pins. The men also won the Blue and Orange Classic in Wappinger Falls with a score of 6,500. Spencer McClellan (Troy/Lansingburgh) led the way with a high-game of 246 and a series high of 589, the fifth best series high in the tournament. Results of the Hawk Invitational at Mohawk Valley Community College were not available as of 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night.
The women’s program placed second in both matches last week. In the conference meet, the team combined to strike down a total of 4,932 pins with a 822.00 team average during the six-game match. Gina Patricelli (Troy/Lansingburgh) placed second with a 193.83 game average, including a game high of 208, a series high of 598 and knocked down 1,163 total pins. In the Blue and Orange Classic, the Vikings tallied 5,757 total pins in the six-team tournament. Hudson Valley scored 2,731 pins in its doubles series games, added 2,719 pins during their single series matches and scored 776 pins in five baker games. Megan Gaige (Colonie/South Colonie) started the tournament with a game-high 192 in the first singles match. Her game high was the best single-game score among her Vikings’ teammates. Gaige finished 10th overall with a series high 520.
Bowling is participating in another conference match, hosted by Mohawk Valley on Friday, Jan. 26 and then the Westchester Shootout on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Men’s basketball (4-12) finished 0-2 last week in games against Mohawk Valley (L, 67-62) and Fulton-Montgomery (L, 75-67). The men nearly pulled off the upset of nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley, but ran out of gas with a five-minute scoring drought, allowing the Hawks to sneak out the win. In their game against Fulton-Montgomery, the Vikings ran out of time as their comeback attempt came up just short on the road.

Women’s Basketball (10-7) finished last week with a 1-2 record. The Vikings defeated Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday, Jan. 20, 69-45, but dropped games at Albany Pharmacy, 71-59, on Monday, Jan. 15 and against Mohawk Valley, 96-55, on Thursday, Jan. 18 at home. Taylor Engster was named the NJCAA Region 3 Female Player of the Week for the second time this season. Engster averaged 27 points per game, 11 rebounds per game and 5.5 assists per game.
