Cross Country
The men’s cross country team won the Herkimer Invitational over the weekend as every runner finished inside the top-20. Holden Maynard finished second overall with a time of 23:27. Subri Ismail finished fourth with a time of 23:36, Ryan Moon finished fifth in a time of 24:00, Anton Conto crossed the line in 24:25, Parker Swierzewski placed 13th with a time of 26:46 and Nathan Savasta finished 18th with a time of 32:59.
The women’s cross country team placed three runners inside the top-10 with Sarah Rosenberger finishing second overall with a time of 23:08. Mercedes Planavsky finished third with a time of 27:19 and Hayley Smith placed seventh with a time of 26:26.
Football (1-4) had a tough 67-14 loss at home against ASA College on Sept. 30. Devon Hill scored for the Vikings defense after recovering a fumble in the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. Jean Charles Laguerre also scored for the Vikings with a 9-yard touchdown run.
Homecoming is Saturday, Oct. 7 and it is highlighted by the Hall of Fame Induction at 2:30-4:30 p.m. The football team will host Milford for a 7 p.m. scheduled start.
Men’s Soccer (7-4) went 2-1 last week and now have won two straight games after defeating Jamestown 4-2 on Sept. 29 and Clinton 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. Garrett Axtmann scored three goals and tallied three assists in the Vikings two wins. Ethan Thomas and Ryan Euell each scored two goals on Oct. 1 at Clinton. Men’s soccer is home Sunday, Oct. 8 to face North Country at 1 p.m.
Women’s Soccer (6-4) also went 2-1 on the week and have put together a two-game winning streak after defeating Jamestown 3-1 on Sept. 29 and Clinton 6-0 on Oct. 1. Six different Vikings scored in Sunday’s win over Clinton. Women’s soccer avoided overtime against Jamestown by scoring two goals in the final two minutes of the game to break the 1-1 tie and secure the win. Women’s soccer is home Sunday, Oct. 8 to face North Country at 3 p.m.
Susannah Frisch (Player of the Week) and Kaitlin Nadeau (Goalkeeper of the Week) were named NJCAA Players of the Week last week after the Vikings upset the No.1 team in the country, Erie, 2-1 on Sept. 23. Frisch scored the game-winning goal and Nadeau recorded 33 saves in 265 minutes of play in three games.
Women’s Tennis (2-5) went 1-1 this week, defeating Herkimer 7-1 on Sept. 25 and lost a tough match, 5-4, at Mohawk Valley on Oct. 1. Women’s tennis looks to participate in the regionals this weekend; the match-ups are announced later this week.
Women’s Volleyball (6-10) finished the week with a 1-4 record after facing a few tough teams in Jefferson (3-0), Onondaga (3-0) and Herkimer (3-0). The Vikings defeated Cayuga, 3-1, during Saturday’s pod play hosted by Onondaga. Volleyball is on the road Wednesday, Oct. 4 when the team travelsl to face Adirondack for a 7 p.m. start. Another win for the Vikings will give the team the most wins in a single season since finishing 11-10 in 2010.
