This week in athletics

 

Cross Country
The Hudson Valley men’s and women’s cross country programs competed at the Steven A. Warde Invitational hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Cobleskill.

The women’s program finished seventh out of 10 teams, which included nine four-year programs. Hudson Valley was led by freshman McKenzie Ryan, who finished the 6K race in 12th place and posted a time of 26:52.90.

The men’s cross country team finished its 8K race in eighth place out of 11 qualifying teams. Leading the way for the Vikings was Joseph Degiorgio. Degiorgio finished the race in 20th place with an official time of 30:07.19.

Football
The Hudson Valley football program dropped its home opener to ASA Brooklyn over the weekend. They are back home on Saturday, Sept. 14 when they welcome Erie for a game at 1 p.m.

Volleyball
The Hudson Valley women’s volleyball program went on the road and were defeated 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-22) as they faced a very tough Adirondack team on Thursday, Sept. 5 in Queensbury.

The Vikings combined for 17 kills, nine service aces, 16 assists and one dig in the three-set match. Hudson Valley’s attack was led by Andraya Warner-Davis and Madison DeMarco, who combined for 11 total kills. Warner-Davis also added four service aces, while Demarco had three service aces on 12 attempts.

Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer program had a busy week with three games on the schedule. The Vikings dropped a tough 1-0 decision in the season opener against Fulton-Montgomery, but rebounded to win the next two games against Dutchess (3-1) and Clinton (2-1).

The Vikings have three more tough games this week as they travel to play at Adirondack on Tuesday, Sept. 11, Corning on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Women’s Soccer
The 2019 women’s soccer season kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 8 with an 8-0 win at Clinton. The Vikings join the men’s program this week with a tough road slate at Adirondack on Tuesday, Sept. 11, Corning on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Women’s Tennis
It is not too late to sign up and join the women’s tennis program. The team’s first match is this week against Broome. Be sure to visit the athletic department in McDonough, room 219, to sign up!
